... can't help but wonder if all the time Lynn spent in a tent in the desert helped get the new position ... hmmmmm

That was all really top secret. Hippo was really code for Honeywell.

Interesting, yes. Problem, Hippo has been around much longer than the Honeywell opportunity.

    Professional Development tip:

It really does help to know people and get them to float your resume past people in a position to hire, even if it takes some time.

You all are making the job a whole lot cooler than it probably really is, COOL!

I'll still be around SSC, probably more in the evenings outside of work. Should have more time to work on things like articles, research, the "MCJ" cert, and other things.

Speaking of the "MCJ", we really need to get working on this one!

Just so y'll know an MCJ-type cert is part of my PASS board campaign platform. Not super high up, but on there. I hope you all vote when the election comes around whether I make the slate or not.

Wow, Honeywell is hiring a database guy. Based on the databases I've seen behind Honeywell products you are the first.

That's not something I'd like to hear about a company I was soon starting at. 😀

Gail, are you referring to Lynn, or to yourself?

I'm not the one soon going to be working at Honeywell. (Wrong country). Just thinking that if I was soon starting at a new company (which I'm not), hearing bad things about their databases from a respected source would be just a little worrying.

A little bothersome indeed. Flip-side is that you know there would be plenty of work to do.

Too bad. It would have made a great headline:

Actually, not overly concerned by the comment. Already have an idea of what my first project may entail. Hoping it goes in the direction I forsee, but never know. It's what happens afterward that I am still a little anxious about.

Since all the work I do will be on-site, it opens the weeknights and weekends for other things, which I plan on using some of that time to learn more about SQL Server, write articles, help others. Still trying to get on with a local university or college to teach databases (there are 3 in town that use MS SQL Server in thier classes).

Lynn, don't forget to try and attend local user group meetings. 🙂

    ...

So you are trying to work less so you can work more? :-D;-)

I have found that I truely enjoy working with SQL Server and I want to ensure that my skills and knowledge in this area stay fresh and current.

As for working more, how many of us couldn't use a little extra cash? If I could get an Adjuct Professor position, it is an opportunity to pass on what I have learned to a new generation of IT professionals. Think about it, those of you who attended college or universities, what could you have done had someone taught you things you could have really used in the real world?

That will depend on church and if my youngest wants to continue with Awana and their 7X24 Program (Middle School - High School).

If she goes to Awana, I may have to miss the User Group meetings since they insist on having them on Wednesday nights.

You mean having a professor who knew the product and didn't just read from a book? Novel idea!!

I actually find it kind of ironic. How many of us fill our days one way or another with SQL server? If we are trying to work fewer hours for the employer, we will fill the free time with volunteer work or more SQL stuff. And in the end have no more free time than in the beginning.

Interesting observation. I wish I had an explanation for it. I know it bothers my wife and kids somewhat, but I guess we need to learn to balance the extracurricular activities so that we can still spend time with those we love as well.

    Speaking of which...

I saw Inception this past week with my middle daughter and her boyfriend, was a pretty good movie.

We also went to Pueblo Saturday night to the Drive-In and saw Despicable Me and The Sorcerers Apprentice, and again enjoyed those movies as well!

  • I have seen Sorcerers Apprentice as well. I enjoyed it. Have not seen either of the other two movies.
