Uh oh, bad blood starting to break out here . . .Nah, the guy's taking a beating for something he didn't create. I know the feeling all too well. He might be starting to overreact but I think he took a few unnecessary shots.
Yeah, I actually sympathize with him. I know what it's like to inherit bad legacy code (as I'm sure a lot of people here do). Poor guy.

I did not post there since I was not sure what I was going to post would be stupid or not. The OP states that when he changed to temp table, it ran faster and then it bogged down again. For me that feels like he has quite a bit of memory pressure and is doing loads of paging. His output is over 30 million rows. That would also mean that he is going to have lots of IO bottle neck. You can do as much tuning on that but that stored proc will always have problem if it has to out put that much rows.
Am I being stupid or am I correct?
You're pretty on. There are LOTS of issues going on there. But the guy is dealing with them as best he can. For some reason the thread just got a bit ugly. Not sure why.

Okay everyone, the hardest thing I have had to do since I started here (work) a little over 5 years ago is done, now the countdown to a new position is started.
Scared, nervous, anxious. :w00t:

I think the thread went a little sideways since the same advice was thrown out there. Get help. I can understand that is a little overwhelming. For people that don't post a lot, they feel they need to respond and deal with every post, which makes most people defensive. It looks like it slowed down. If it flares up, I'll send a "calming" note to the OP

ItsYourTurn has a dark chess variant - you can only see the squares your pieces can directly attack. They never see your knight coming, but he kind of wanders around not knowing who is coming after him either. π

I used to have a membership at ItsYourTurn and have played Dark Chess, Atomic Chess, and the truly challenging Game of The Amazons, which is a fascinating hybrid of Go and Chess.

Congrats on the new gig. Seems like a lot of people I know are changing jobs. I'm bound to where I am until next July. Not sure what I'll be doing after that. I could stay or I could move on.

hmmm, you didn't say who's leg, or what kind of leg, to break. Leg from the kitchen table? π
Congratulations Lynn and I hope it all goes well.
