We're also planning a SQL 2008 R2 launch event. Maybe I can shift his focus towards that and move the SQL Saturday to the end of the BBQ Fest (or as we call it here, "Mud Fest")Not to throw another wrench into it, but I don't think PASS would allow a SQLSaturday in the Southeast until AFTER the PASS SQLRally which is May 11-13. You'd have to go like May 20.
You lost me on that one.
PASS is sponsoring a regional conference in Orlando May 11-13, 2011. They have already said that they don't want to have any SQLSaturday's close to that event (both in date and location), so while a SQLSaturday in California would be okay on the 14th, but in Memphis it might draw people away from SQLRally.

I don't think that PASS would stop a SQL Saturday in Jan/Feb, or even Mar. Apr/May I can see being an issue.

Memphis is about 14 hours by car from Orlando....

What has happened to the nefarious one called Gus?Gus was working on a contract where web access was strictly monitored, so he didn't feel comfortable posting. That contract got terminated a bit early so he's looking again. (I'm his wife so in a position to know. :-D)
I don't know if this is of any use, but I saw this tweeted today.

...Not sure it will help, but that, along with a lovely complaint about Mr. Celko has made this a less than enjoyable day.
Never met Mr. Celko, and after reading many of his responses over the last few days not really sure I'd want to meet him. Seems a bit arrogant to me, lacks tact when dealing with people.
Just hope I don't come across like that when I post. Please, someone, hit me with the proverbial 2 x 4 if I ever start acting that way.

Agreed - Mr. Celko is not a people's person.
You know, the new generation has no manners 😀

Can we resort to traditional halibut slapping instead?

This chap ought to update his cv and brush up on his interview skills. Not sure I'd want to work there. This situation could only have arisen as a result of a whole series of wtfs.
Yikes.
Glad I don't have to deal with a mess like that.

Yes, we're in the Tampa area and not looking to move. After moving 7 times in the past 13 years, I'm not up for another move for a while, unless there is really big incentive to move. And besides, we both like Tampa, so Tampa it is. 🙂
Niceville, unfortunately, is in the Florida Panhandle and would require moving, otherwise that sounds like a great job for Gus. Thanks for the tip, though. 🙂 Too bad it requires moving. 🙁
If you hear of anything, that would be great. 🙂

Funny thing. I think Joe Celko has multiple personalities. His online persona is pretty horrific. I've met him in person, several times now. He's a total sweetheart. I mean it. He speaks mildly. He's defferential and kind. I like him. I cringe every time I see him posting, but he's a nice guy.

Agreed. He's got a persona that he keeps up online and when speaking.
