Are the posted questions getting worse?

Did I hear someone say BBQ?

This past weekend, they just had their annual BBQ competition[/url] in my town!

Our annual competition is a week long event: Memphis In May BBQ Contest

  • That seems like a good week for a SQL Saturday (hint, hint)

  • Not this October I hope. The schedule is already crowded. With Columbia, Orlando, SLC, KC, and PASS in Nov, it's a very busy time for speakers. I'd shoot for early next year sometime.

I understand what you're saying Steve, but our leader is determined to have one this fall.

  • If you slide to early Dec, I will try to come.

I think I would work very hard to persuade him to do it another time. It's not something you do just to say that you did it. Quality and attendance are big parts of SQLSat being a success.

That would be terrific. We may still have some leftover BBQ in December...

  • We're also planning a SQL 2008 R2 launch event. Maybe I can shift his focus towards that and move the SQL Saturday to the end of the BBQ Fest (or as we call it here, "Mud Fest")

Unless you already have speakers and sponsors lined up you are, in my opinion, too late to start for the Fall. You really need 6 months lead time.

I hear you. I need to convince to postpone the event.

I just an interesting idea. The local Microsoft guys are on a BBQ team. I wonder what it would take to get them to provide lunch for the event? We'll have to work on that too.

  • Back to the BBQ discussion:

I grew up thinking that grilling with Propane was BBQing. Then I lived in Florida for a while and had a lot of friends from other places in the south that introduced me to good BBQ.

I still grill with propane but I BBQ with a hickory smoker and I also have a typical Charcoal set up. This fall after it cools down I'm buying a better rig to smoke with. Then I'm planning on trying my hand at some larger competitions. The one I took 2nd in only had 15 contestants.

Not to throw another wrench into it, but I don't think PASS would allow a SQLSaturday in the Southeast until AFTER the PASS SQLRally which is May 11-13. You'd have to go like May 20.

Reminds me of the first time I had coleslaw on a bbq sandwhich.

Neighbor uses a smoker quite a bit. Turns out good, just takes awhile.
