I knew you were, but you were being so conscientious about just posting real Threadliness, so figured I'd take care of it for you.

Plus, I always miss the milestones, so since you mentioned it this morning I've been sniping the count...:hehe::-D:-P

I was hoping to come up with a squeamish color, but this was the closest match I could find.

Should I be scared? Nearly half of those who have answered the QotD have gotten it wrong. Could be people not fully reading the question, but still, this should be basic knowledge for a DBA.

I'm thinking this is a difficult question because it is hard to run as a query beforehand and pretend you knew it all along 😀

This actually tests your knowledge (yes I got it wrong...grrr...)

I think that is a good key here - no script to run so it is harder to determine the correct answer.

Not like I threw a loop in though, like saying we truncate the t-log just before running the full backup. That would have changed the answer. I'm wondoring how many would have caught that had I put that one in.

    Steve,

What is this new content of plagiarism? Where can it be found?

    ??

Tough call. I think the numbers may be just about the same as you see now. There possibly might have been considerably more activity on the discussion as well.

  • Lynn,

I think it was OK. From a technical standpoint, it makes sense. The issue seems that some people don't understand log chaining, so things read funny to them. I think it's a good question.

In reference to your blog. I was curious to find more info about the plagiarism you talked about there.

I guess I'm second guessing the question a bit. It made complete sense to me, but I wrote it. I really think it is a matter of comprehension, as some people simply took parts of the restore scenerio out of context, and then focused on that as the reason they answered the question wrong. Pointing the finger at that instead of realizing that they misunderstood the solution and accepting responsibility for getting it wrong.

Some who got it wrong have accepted that and have said the question was good and that they learned something. Those posts make me feel good, as that is the goal of the QotD. I guess I should focus more on those. 😉

    No need to second guess.

    No need to second guess.

Part of the reflective process, could it have been better. I just need to focus more on the positive comments and let the negative comments slide off. If i do that, less second guessin gon the question.

I second Steve's opinion. If they don't comprehend the sequence of events to restore to a point-in-time, heaven help them if a true disaster strikes. I can see the post now - "Urgent plz, experts only" or "I've lost my data and don't have a backup". I'm not saying this is DBA 101 but something that should be picked up early on in one's career and can almost recite in their sleep.
