Hi Guys,
Is the below achievable via arc serve?
Let's say currently I have the below backup strategy:
1. Daily full db backup to filesystem via SQL Maintenance Plan
2. Hourly db transaction logs backup to tape via arc serve.
When comes to restoration, can I just restore the transaction logs backup to file system? (without applying it)
Will need the transaction logs backup files on the filesystem to use it for point in time recovery with (1).
thanks

Never used that arc tool. For point-in-time restore (full recovery model) you need full backup + unbroken chain of all transaction log backups starting with the one that contains the moment when full backup finished to the transaction log backup containing the moment you want to restore to. You would benefit from including differential backups in your scheme, and adding compression and checksum options. Read about backups.

Hi,
thanks for ur advise.
When doing the below, i supposed the transaction logs chained are not broken as there's no full backup by arc serve.
1. Daily full db backup to filesystem via SQL Maintenance Plan
2. Hourly db transaction logs backup to tape via arc serve.
So i'm just curious with arc serve, is there an options to just restore the transaction logs backup to file system?
After that, I can use the transaction logs backup with the full backup via maintenance plan to perform point in time recovery?
thanks

Full backups and differential backups do not break the log chain.
