  • I've found that a whole lot of people don't even know what "Books Online" is. Get into SSMS and press the {f1} key to get there. It's the "Help" system that comes with SQL Server.

  • In addition to the Books Online, I'd recommend getting a copy of SQL Server Internals by Kalen Delaney. It might be over your head now, but the more you study it, the more you'll know.
