(Forgive me for my low level curiosity: "what is five book trilogy?"; and I never know how I am suppose to answer such questions, so I copy-pastes the entire question in google and ....man.... that question really exist on the internet (I thought it was some kind of stu... formation), well I chose the answer with the higher votes.):-)

actually, 6*9 = 54.
6*7=42.
Douglas was never very mathematically inclined...
I think you may have missed the point...

42 I had heard of, that quote from the books I had not. Out guessed myself on the geekness of the contributor, thought it was a double bluff.

actually, 6*9 = 54.
6*7=42.

613 * 913 = 4213
But Adams hated that explanation. The Joke was that the useless people corrupted the computation and not only came up with the simplest question for 42, but got it wrong.

(Forgive me for my low level curiosity: "what is five book trilogy?";It was a five book trilogy because it was originally a trilogy, and then he wrote two more books. When book four came out it was a joke that it was book 4 of the trilogy. Then books 5 and 6 made it a running gag.
Not to mention that with the official continuation by a new author, it is a six book trilogy.
