Applying SP with a database offline

    I applied SP4 today with one of the user databases offline and setup gave me a message that basically said it to was applying the SP with a database or filegroup offline Click ok to continue with setup.

    What happens to a user database that is offline when applying sp4, what happens when its online? Obviously SQL Server wants us to know this, but why? I was thinking maybe if their was replicated tables or fulltext index indexes that the sp fixes. ???

    Just Curious, back to my upgrades. Sorry for typos

    My understding was or is that SP 4 makes changes ot the systables in the user databases as well as the standard changes which is why it is impossible to roll this SP out with out having to re install SQL Server and restore to your backups taken before the SP was installed.

    appreciate the feedback, that was my guess as well. Wonder if their is anything inheritably wrong with running without updating one user database.

    probably wiull just reapply the sp.
