I was asked to apply a password to the SA account on a couple of SS2K databases that, when installed, a blank password was used. I'm not 100% sure what to do so I thought I'd post here.
What I was thinking I needed to do was in Enterprise Mgr:
1. Goto the Security folder and select Logins
2. Double-click on the sa login (on the right side of EM)
3. Enter a password in the Password text box
Is this correct or am I omitting anything. Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Brian

That works... just be sure you remember the password you set there, cause it's a pain in the ass if you forget it.

Brian,
Don't forget to turn on your pager after that.
People who install SQL server with a blank password tend to use it in the applications for connection strings. Those applications will not be able to connect to the database after you change the password. Be prepared to explain things to them.
Another thing: Some (me included) have their Enterprise Manager connected as SA. You may need to Edit Registration Properties in this case.
The other good advice is to make sure you added your own Windows login to SQL Server and make it a member of System Administrators (Sysadmin Rights) before you change the SA password.
Go ahead, change the password and let us know if you have any problems
