Best Practices for Configuring Forms Authentication in Reporting Services
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918555
That article talks about MOSS in the middle both it applies to all Forms authentications because the support article is not about MOSS but just SSRS.

Each service pack is cumulative. So if you install SP3, you're install SP1 and SP2. This is a quote from Microsoft (located here):Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (SP3) contains hotfixes that were included in cumulative update packages for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 from cumulative update package 1 to cumulative update package 9, and fixes to issues that have been reported through our customer feedback platforms. It also includes supportability enhancements and issues that have been reported through Windows Error Reporting.
So to fix the issues that SP2 addresses, just install SP3.
That is the reason I will apply two separate service packs because of the many crude implementations in SSRS.

Cumulative Update 1 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3 (SP3) contains only hotfixes that were released in Cumulative Update 10 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (SP2) and Cumulative Update 11 for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 (SP2). These hotfixes are not included in SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 3.

So, apply SP 2, followed by SP 3 and you still don't have the CU 10 and 11, what's the point.
I still haven't seen ANYTHING that says you have to install SP 2 before SP 3 for Reporting Services. Show me where this is mentioned. Don't just point me to a set of articles, show me where MS says this is what you have to do for Reporting Services.

I don't think MS will tell you about when code will blow up implementation when MS depreciates known SSRS bugs in future version.

From what I have learned, the only service pack that requires the previous service pack to be installed first is Vista SP 2. According to a very well informed source, this is the only service pack that requires service pack 1 to be installed.
In this case, installing SP 3 without installing SP 2 should work without any problems.

That source did not tell you it is almost rocket science to install SQL Server 2005 in Windows 7 Ultimate if SSRS is included. I just did a new install and it took a while compared to my previous install in August 2009 and in SQL Server 2008 the instaler terminates the install if any depencies is missing. In SQL Server anything can happen. All I know SSRS is using Web Service in places where standard http is needed such things can break.

My advice to the user is based on my experience with SQL Server 2005 fresh install and later applying Sp3 last week so in a production server I will not be applying cumulative service pack in SQL Server 2005 any operating system.

Sorry, lost me here. I've installed SQL Server 2005 several times, install the RTM, install SP 3. No problems. I don't install CU's unless they resolve a specific problem I am encountering.

What I am saying is my experience with SQL Server 2005 and SP3 in the same operating system have changed like day and night from August of 2009 to last week so I will run things differently.
