How long does it take to apply a service pack, for example SP3?
Does it take the same time as installation of sql server or much shorter time?
Thanks

It's usually around a 15 minute outage, but I like to set aside a 30 minute window just in case I need to reboot.
You'll definitely want to test/practice the process in a test environment first, so that should give you a good indication of the time needed.

It takes around 20-30 minutes if i remember correctly.
As jim suggested, u can check on a test server first and note the process and time both.

On Wednesday evening I went from Service Pack 2 to Service Pack 4 in under thirty minutes.

Thank you, does the install need to restart the computer after the installation?
Thanks

It depends on what SQL services you have running. The upgrade will inform you of which services are running and which will require a reboot if they are not stopped.
Good luck
