SSMS 2012: when you open up many sql files in the IDE, it starts hiding some tabs and you have to click on the drop down at the right to navigate to the tab you want. Is there a way to make it display more than one row of tabs, so that tabs are not hidden and always displayed?

The only way I know is this: right click on one of the tabs and choose "new horizontal group" or "new vertial group". When having two or more "sectors" you can drag and drop the tabs between these "sectors".
The disadvantage is the due to splitting you're screen the query windows are smaller.
But still sometimes this is quite useful.

Or pay the money for the Tab Studio add-in,
That looks promising.

On the tab that is open, click the little pin icon so that the sharp end of the pin faces downwards. Now 4+ tabs can be concurrently open and viewable - eliminating the need to use the dropdown arrow.
