Any solutions to compare saved SSIS packages?

  • See the subject. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

    Gus.

  • depends on how they are "saved"... if in XML file, you can do a "comp"... although that won't tell you too much.  There are other tools out there that are more effective.  I don't have any currently installed so can't give you a name; but there are editors with this ability built in.  Might even be able to do it in VS.

  • Thank you.

Yeah, i searched in Google about such products but didn't find anything. Of course, there must be applications for this purpose.

Is there a way to retrieve SSIS packages from MSDB and to save them then to XML?

    Gus.

  • just retrieve the package into the development environment and "save as" specifying the new format.  I just googled "compare two files" and got tons of hits... the first one being a company with "free" utilities.  I didn't look any further; but I will need this information within about a week, so if you find anything really good, please do post the results here.

    Thanks!

  • BTW, the advice above presumes that the package wasn't encrypted, in which case you may have to go back to CM and get the developer's copy.

  • Thx a lot, David. I'll post the results here if I'll have dug something interesting.

    Gus.
