My organization has been delving deep into the spatial aspects of our data as of late, and we're looking for ways to display it to end users. The Map component that comes with SQL 2008 R2 seemed like a good fit, until we actually started developing some more complicated map based reports with multiple layers - we ran into a few critical bugs that make it very painful to work with. We've opened a support incident with MS, but it's been four months in the making to actually GET the product group to look at it, and we're starting to suffer from some serious lack of faith in MS support for developers. SO, are there any good alternatives to the map control that won't break the bank?

No one with any suggestions for alternatives?
Our case with MS is still open, they say they've got a fix in the pipe and it may actually be delivered in a mid-Feb CU... the operative word being 'may'. However, today they also mentioned that it's only one of the bugs they've even looked at, and five months in they want START looking at our second bug... In the meantime we've been looking at options for Cognos, and they seem to be in the dark ages compared to Reporting Services. Was there really no one but Dundas and the overly expensive GIS specialist companies (ESRI, MapInfo) working on spatial reporting?!?
