And it's sometimes very tough to work on 2005 when you spend lot of time with 2008 onwards.

We jumped from 2000 to 2008 as well except we did have a test server years ago that was 2005 and I recalled first playing with row_number and ntile then. Had to think a bit to be sure on this one. Thanks!

Didn't they call these the Ranking Functions in SQL server 2005?
It's a rhetorical question because they did.

2008R2 yet, so eliminating un usable functions in 2008R2 give an easy answer for 2005
