As a complete beginner with AS I'm looking for a couple of books which will get me up and running with Analysis Services for SQL Server 2005 and give me a good introduction to the basic cincepts, can anyone recommend any particular books I should consider?
many thanks

Microsoft® SQL Server™ 2005 Analysis Services Step by Step
This book is for beginners if you like the walk through tutorial approach. It is a good way of getting an overview of the functionality but isn't a great reference book.

Thanks Daniel, thats sounds like it what I need to get started, but then I probably need a more in-depth reference as well. I've heard good things about Teo Lachev's 'Applied Microsoft Analysis Services 2005', don't know if anyone out there has any comments..?

I've been reading Brian Larson's "Delivering Business Intelligence ..." (link) and it's pretty good so far (on ch.13 currently) but I would have to say the chapter on SSIS could be shortened or replaced with something more specific and useful. The chapter on SSIS lists every control flow and data flow task along with descriptions. This is good for reference but I think could be shortened to the more common tasks used.
Have you started reading the 'Analysis Step by Step' book yet? The "Delivering BI" book doesn't go into great detail about it and it is by far my weakest category so I would like to get something more thorough...
Cheers,

I would recommend Applied Microsoft Analysis Services 2005 and Microsoft Business Intelligence Platform, ISBN 0-9766353-0-5 and The Microsoft Data Warehouse Toolkit, ISBN 0-471-26715-5
I would say the first one is more "how to" and the second is a design manual. But I have found them to complement each other and both are (IMHO) very good books. I think the chapter on Designing the Business Process Business Model in the Toolkit is worth the price of the book.
