Easy peasy. 😀
If I'm not mistaken, Excel uses MDX, Power View uses DAX.
Need an answer? No, you need a question

Please , could you explain me this excerpt ?
"The exception is tabular models that have been deployed in DirectQuery mode, which do not retrieve data from an Analysis Services data store, but retrieve data directly from a SQL Server data source. You cannot query these models using MDX, but must use a client that supports conversion of DAX expressions to Transact-SQL statements, such as the Power View client."

In the same page , I found
"You cannot use MDX or DMX queries in a database that has been deployed in DirectQuery mode"
which seems ( to me ) a possibly annoying limit to the use of MDX/DMX , so why not to use only DAX ?
Have a nice day

It's a limit, but perhaps only a temporary one; there is a statement that future versions of SQL Server are expected to enable tabular models to use DirectQuery to accept MDX queries in the document you can download here

Hello Tom
Thanks for your explanation. I have searched in the SQL Server 2014 BOL , I have found nothing about it but I have noticed that , very often , the improvements about Analysis Services are appearing not in the RTM version but only with the SP1.
As Analysis services is not really my favorite topic , maybe , I have not searched in the right way.
Thanks
