The Analysis Services Service failed to start after removing several instance of SQL Server on a machine and installing SQL Server 2008 R2.
I can't start the service and I have not yet been able to identify the root cause of the problem.

Anyone who landed on this page, the (insane) solution is to go into Event Viewer and "Clear All Events" in the Application node.
It really works...

What is the "Log On As" set to and is the instance ID you are trying to connect to still installed?
(i.e. if the instance name = ABC, is the analysis services trying to connect to ABC)
Are you setting Analysis Services up in a server/network environment or on a personal computer? If so, what OS/SP are you running?
