An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full

  • Hi

Im using SQL Server 2008 R2 and have recently decided to get rid of Cognos and start using SSRS. I was testing a report with a total of +-27K rows to be returned and only 6 small columns. This tested fine on my development PC with 2Gig Ram and I could export to Excel no problem.

I deployed it to the server and as soon as I try and export the report to Excel from the server it give the error mentioned in the subject. The server have 6 gig dedicated to sql server and the other 2 is set for OS and applications. I tried restarting IIS as suggested and I removed the /3g in the boot.ini.

Any other ideas on how to get rid of this message.

Seriously would like to use SSRS instead of Cognos, but if my first report in SSRS is going to give me hassles as per normal from M$, I would have no other choice.

    Many thanks

  • HI

Many thanks for the reply. I also saw this article but could only restart the server late friday afternoon. I then tried the export to Excel again and it seems to work. I still need to test it on the clients PC to be sure, but it seems to be the problem.

(I took out the /3g switch by the way).

    Many thanks

    Chris

  • Yeah, you don't want the /3G switch set unless you are on a machine with 3GB of memory and you want to reduce the OS to use just 1GB of memory freeing up 2GB for SQL.
