An Interesting but confusing connectivity question.

  • Hi All,

    Thanks for reading my question.

I have a SQL Server 2008 (Service Pack 1 - Version 10.00.2531.00) running in production. The application connects as "sa"..(I know it is not the right way..but can't help it :-))

We have been seeing a weird issue for the last 4 to 5 days.

Around mid of the day, the application goes down saying no connectivity to the instance

At that time, when I try to connect to the SQL Server Instance from the box (where the instance is running), I am getting the same connectivity error. But when I use '.' in the server name, I am able to connect.

I am also able to connect to the instance from my laptop using SSMS.

This issue gets resolved when we restart both IIS and SQL Server.

I also see the following error message in the event log at the same time..

"This computer was not able to set up a secure session with a domain controller in domain 'XXXXX' due to the following.

Not enough storage is available to process this command.

This may lead to authentication problems. Make sure that this computer is connected to the network. If the problem persists, please contact your domain administrator"

    Thanks!

    Siva.

  • Sounds like it could possibly be a DNS issue. What happens when you try to connect using the IP address as opposed to the server name?

  • Hi Thomas,

    Thanks for your reply.

If it is a DNS issue, do you think it would work well after a restart..?

    Thanks!

    Siva.
