I am looking to rent separate (virtual) servers and 2 sql instances that support high availability solutions so I can practice mirroring, log shipping, replication, and clustering...any suggestions and approx price are welcome

Take a look at Amazon Web Services.
You could use EC2 instances which can be Windows Server virtual machines where you can install SQL Server and do any tests you like.
Avoid the RDS option for SQL server as its quite limited on the HA \ DR front.
Costs can be fairly minimal, and they even have a cost calculator you can use to project what it will cost you.

For example to run a Windows Server with SQL Standard edition for 10 hours per month it can be as little as $7.

If you have an MSDN license, you can work with Azure for free, up to a certain limit each month. The pricing is here[/url]. Just keep the size of your VMs small and you should be fine.
