May I ask another question Perry. With regards to AlwaysOn, is it possible to have a 2 node cluster, availability group configured accordingly and then add a secondary replica from another instance of SQL that is not in the cluster?
Many thanks

All nodes containing AO group replicas must be part of the same cluster, this is so that the listener clustered resource can be failed to a node with a secondary instance taking over as a primary.

So, and apologies for my many, many question, the likes of this article here

the secondary replica would have to be on the same cluster?
Thanks

You can have an AO group span different clusters but its only supported for migration purposes.
