AlwaysOn Clusterless

  • Hi All

I'm hoping I can get something cleared up regarding AlwaysOn without an underlying Windows Cluster.

    So my understanding is:

    • Supports sync and async commit modes
    • If the primary is available, you can failover without data loss by setting to synchronous if it wasn't set already.
    • Cannot failover automatically
    • No listeners

So my thought is, why is this not considered as a viable HA solution?

    Thanks

    Sums it up pretty much.

  • Thanks

I hope I'm not missing something here because I really want to pursue this in our organization.

Are you aware of any edition limitations?

  • I'm trialling a synchronous pair with a 3rd node that is async… i'm asking similar questions. I'm hitting so many issues with HA groups that I just want to go back to mirroring with snapshots on a windows 2008 server cluster
