always on sql server

  • Hi Guys,

I have a question to configure always on sql server same subnet vs multi subnet.

It is three node cluster, two in same DC  HA (node 1, node 2) and other in DR (Node 3). It needs a multi subnet, I am thinking to configure node1 & 2 as well into different subnet, will be good and benefit?

  • Thanks for posting your issue and hopefully someone will answer soon.

This is an automated bump to increase visibility of your question.

  •

    Sqltester1,

Availability groups support 8 secondary-replicas and all nodes running as asychronous mode or up to 3 replicas can run in syncronous mode.

But it depends on what you want to achieve.

    Best regards

  • I like what Lou is asking. What are you hoping to achieve, especially with putting nodes 1 and 2 that are in the same location on different subnets? What problem are you trying to solve?

  • Without giving this a lot of thought, I don't see benefit of putting HA nodes in different subnets.  I have built and supported lots of AGs, never did this.  Different subnet is less simple, and we accept this with the DR node because we must.
