all permissions lose access from time to time

  • I have recently moved a database over to a new server, as the old one was...well.... old! it worked fine on the old server for years, but more users meant we needed a more powerful server. sql and my database loaded successfully onto the machine. we have a website that accesses the database using a service account.every now and again, the service account the web site uses just loses permissions on the database and the only way to resolve this is to reboot the sql server. this is downtime, that we try to avoid. has anyone expirienced this before and what did you do to resolve it?

    Thanks all

  • Its entirely possible I am talking about something else here, but you decide!

I have had fairly similar issues when using active directory security and the link to the ad server is flaky - or even worse the ad server flakes out from time to time.  When this happened I found some stuff in the server logs (sorry I can't be more specific) regarding permissions.

Just a thought. Course if you ain't on ad, then I haven't a clue...

  • think you have hit the nail on the head. we do use active directory. it is , for lack of a better term, dodgy at times. il investigate this avenue further. thanks
