Has anyone found any good articles or books, on best practices for implementing sql alerting using their database mail? We are basically creating alerts based on severity .. 17-19 e-mail notification, 20-24 paging oncall person..

We used to use Database Mail, but stopped for several reasons. We now just write events to the Windows Event Logs and then use Nagios to scan them and send alerts. The biggest reason that we stopped using Database Mail was that we needed a system to get the Windows specific alerts anyway, and once we had that, it didn't make sense to maintain two separate systems.
