I am tring to create an alert of type 'SQL Server performance condition alert' but I can't see that entry in the type field dropdown in the 'New Alert' window.
any help please ?

Try turning on sql profiler, opening a new alert dialogue, and see what commands are sent to the db to pull up that screen. Go through them to see where it is pulling the types and then check that table. At that point proceed with caution. I would check the same table on a different server for the data and determine if it is safe to copy a row to this server. Be very careful with this option!
Remember this when a developer tells you it will just be temporary. Temporary = Permanent.

check to see if that alert exists as a predefined dropdown item in the list.
