Advanced cluster preparation

  • I ran the Advanced cluster preparation for a new sql instance on an existing cluster.

    Slq Server 2012.

After is completed, it was succesful, I realized I specified the wrong Instance Root directory.

Is it possible to remove what the preparation installed?

Or is it possible to change the root directory?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I should have done a little more digging before writing this post.

    I figured it out.

Control Panel > Programs and Features.

Select Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (64-bit).

    Click Uninstall/Change.

When the Add/Repair/Remove dialog come up, click on Remove.

When the Instance selection (?) screen comes up, I choose the instance I was prepping for.

    Went thru the remaining screens.

Now I can re-install in teh correct location.

  • Personally I would never uninstall SQL Server on what is destined to be a Production machine. Outside of Production I still prefer to not uninstall SQL Server.

It is not wise to assume that the uninstall will remove all trace of your SQL installation from the machine. It is possible that at a later date one of these artefacts will cause confusion or even a problem.

In your situation I would have gone back to the people who install Windows, apologise, and ask that they reinstall Windows because I messed up something. It is safer to do this than risk a problem a year down the line.

  • Ed,

    Thanks for the comments.

I would normally agree with you and have the box rebuilt.

But in this case the box is already in production with one instance of sql running clustered hosting Sharepoint 2010.

The second instance will eventually replace the first when we upgrade Sharepoint to 2013.

So rebuilding the box is not possible.
