Hi guys,
I have a big problem and I need the help of experts.
My IT installed SQL server 2000 Standard SP3 on Windows 2000 Server with a lower profile and not with the one of the administrator.
So I can administer SQL but not Windows .... I found no refernces on the web for such situation .....
I have some problems, for example I can't kill a user process, start or stop SQL service, ecc....
My SQL is running slow, on a Compaq Proliant 1 CPU Xeon 700, 1 GB RAM, a database of 22 GB and few users, sometimes query are in timeout even on a user.
My question is if it could depend from the installation account.
I mean if with such installation SQL has a lower priority and it can make mess when it's compared with other system processes.
Should I also upgrade the hardware ?
We are also discussing about that.
Next week my IT will come to make some tests and I'd like have the ideas more clear.
Thanks a lot in advance.

What king of authentification mode are you using.
If O/S autentification mode you should be the admin on the O/S as well.
Thanks

Your SQL Server service account doesn't have to be NT administrator. As long as it has suffiecient privilege as required by installation guide from BOL, your SQL Server will work fine.
Whether you are unable to perform some kind of activities as mentioned in your post depends on the privileges your account has. It is nothing to do with SQL Server service account.
Your SQL Server running slow may be from different reasons, bad query design, SQL Server is not configuraed properly, slow network etc. You need to use some tools such as performance monitor, profiler to examine what are the causes.
Whetehr you should upgrade your hardware should depend on the finings what are the really problems you SQL Server and application have.

NET IQ's Free SQL CHECK Tool might help you in checking the load on the box, Avg. Wait Time, etc.
