I believe the subscription will build up and wait for the subscriber to come online.
That means that a bunch of bcp files that never get pushed/pulled could fill up the drive on the distibutor.

You mean to say that on one Publisher (DB) you have 5 Subscribers configured. ?
Well, if that is the case the replication will fail to that subscriber...
Check the Replication monitor for better view of the process.

Nothing will happen, you will see bunch of error messages in SQL server log. Script out the failed subscription and drop the failed subscriber form the publisher, just to keep it clean. when you bring the subscriber up and running, run the subscriber script and re run the snap shot, you are done piece of cake.

Only do what GT says if you like running the snapshot agent and doing table locks on the publisher.
If you just wait it will all catch up when the subscriber onlines.

You should weigh your options. If the subscriber isn't going to be online any time soon it might be better to do what GT says, especially if your distributor doesn't look like it's going to be able to accommodate the space needed to wait it out. If it's just a matter of starting the service back up then waiting is definitely the way to go.
