Administering secondary database in log shipping

  Is there a way to bring the secondary database out of standby/read-only mode and make changes to the database(such as make the files bigger) and then put it back into standby/read-only mode and start log shipping again without doing a restore using the primary's backup?   I have tried making a backup of the secondary and restoring with that but the logs will not apply then.  

  Any guidance would be appreciated.

  Unfortunately I think you already have the answer. Drop recreate, re-import backup.
