I have tried this product, and it's an SQLCompare killer.....
I have looked for a long time for a product to accurately compare a large database a client of mine has so they could create a rollout procedure that accurately migrates changes from the test to live environments. SQLCompare took 15 minutes each time they wanted to compare the database, which was just far too slow. Then I came across SQLDiff and tried it out - 20 SECONDS!!!!
This is so fast I can make incremental changes and rescan to see the result - something I wouldn't even countenance with SQLCompare.
The database is as follows:
238 Tables
205 Foreign Keys
73 Indexes
227 Triggers
90 Views
1705 Procedures
SQLDiff is very full featured and tweakable, although I found the default settings did the job "right out of the box".
Safe to say the client has now licensed the product, I suggest you download a trial as it is full featured for 30 days (I actually tested a rollout to determine it's worth).

Just registered AdeptSql Workshop! I assume, it has the same basic code as AdeptSqlDiff.
It compares sql script to a database and the other way round. It can update both ways. It's fast. Good integration with Visual SourceSafe. That's fine when working with several developpers on a database. Everyone can now easily update his own local test database. And when the time is there, we can easily update the live database.
Recommanded!

Yes I'm now looking into this product as well as I need SourceSafe integration. It looks as though it uses the same compare engine. The SQLDiff product is strictly compare between two databases (although you can also use it as an object browser to REALLY quickly script your entire database). In fact come to think of it, it does script the database about 10 times faster than Microsoft ;o)

We have many installations all over the world, and need a product for upgrading versions.
I tried sqldiff, it's fast, reliable and easy to use.

has anybody tried adeptsqldiff (www.adeptsql.com)?Yes, we've adopted both the Diff tool and the Workshop as part of our version control program for our SQL schemas and code. This is an excellent tool which is far superior to typical whitespace comparison tools. If you want more information contact me at mdavis@prometheuslabs.com

this product, in my opinion is clearly superior to red-gate but no one seems to know about it for lack of advertising.
but this may change soon. if you do a google search on "red-gate" you get ad for adeptsqldiff - "no more coffee break while waiting for database comparison". it is funniest i have seen... but very true.

there is another compare product that was in sqlmag this month (i forgot link) but i download it and it says 14 day trial already expired so I couldn't review it. maybe not so good if timebomb doesn't even work.

I am trying it now just to see for myself. I find it simple to use but missing a few features or more specifically comparision option settings, and even more specifically I am comparing a 2000 db to 7 db and I don't care to see in the report Extended Properties but I have tried everything to turn that check off as well as look in the help file (which is lacking a bit especially on serveral buttons). My only other complaint is the design, in my opinion, is extrememly clunky like someone thru it together, looks more like a Linux or Win 3.x app than other current apps (I am biased thou as I write VB and C++ GUIs, of which I have to do most of the GUI drawing in C++ myself this could an issue within their developement environment itself). I will be downloading Red Gate in the next day or so and do a side by side.

you have some valid criques I can add a couple of my own. the diff screen sometimes does not process carriage returns so that script is displayed all on one line.
it is not so easy to filter out objects (like that match or are not in one db or the other). i do find interface a bit confusing
BUT my most important criteria is performance - it does not help me to have some features if comparison takes 6 hours!
we had to run sqlcompare as an overnight batch job. by the time comparison is done the database may have been changed again making the process useless to begin with.
i will await to see fair review of this product and maybe a side by side comparison as you mention.

it is only a verson 1.0 and damn good at that. I am sure he will address shortcomings in due time.
I know this developer and wish I did not have him as a competitor - he does good work.
This tool was spun off from sql workshop product as kind of an after thought, as I understand it. I believe technology is Delphi. While interface is not elegant it is fast - astonishling so. Also, it is not so difficult to polish an interface - most brains has gone into comparison algorithm.
We plan our own tool http://www.lockwoodtech.com/index_sqldiff.htmwhich should be out shortly
although I can promise speed will approximate adeptsqldiff - you would have to bend the laws of physics to write a tool to beat it's performance.
