I have a virtual server (Windows 2003 SP2, 64-bit, Dual Core) with the Default instance of SQL 2005 Standard 64-bit. I have installed all components Database, Reporting Services, Integration Services, etc. This Default instance also has service pack 3 installed.
I need to install a named instance with all components as well. Do I have to install the same service pack or can I leave it at service pack 2? The vendor has not confirmed whether or not sp3 will work.
Has anyone experienced any problems with installed two instances on a virtual server?
Thanks for your help.

For your question about installing the Named (2nd) Instance and leaving at Service Pack 2, yes you can leave it at the Service pack which is different from the other Instance(SP 3).
The Other part of the question, problems having two instance on a virtual server, what kind of problems would you have in mind. Performance problem, stability of the instances etc...
I have had in the past 2 Instances in Virtual Server in Dev and worked fine.
Only answer I am unsure is the 64 Bit part, even I wonder if that causes any issue as I had 32 Bit ones.
Hope I could answer some part of your questions.
