Active/Active cluster. Unexpected MSDTC group failover

  • We have SQL2000 SP4 and Win2k3 SP1 2 node clustered environment.

Yesterday MSDTC group failed to another node. I have noticed that and moved it back to the first node. All worked. Than I checked the logs and found the following errors:

    System:

The Distributed Transaction Coordinator service terminated with service-specific error 3221229584 (0xC0001010).

Cluster resource 'MSDTC' in Resource Group 'MSDTC' failed.

    Application:

The MS DTC service is stopping.

MS DTC log file not found. After ensuring that all Resource Managers coordinated by MS DTC have no indoubt transactions, please run msdtc -resetlog to create the log file.

MS DTC Transaction Manager start failed. LogInit returned error 0x20.

DTC Security Configuration values (OFF = 0 and ON = 1): Network Administration of Transactions = 1,

    Network Clients = 0,

Inbound Distributed Transactions using Native MSDTC Protocol = 1,

Outbound Distributed Transactions using Native MSDTC Protocol = 1,

Transaction Internet Protocol (TIP) = 0,

    XA Transactions = 1

Could not start the MS DTC Transaction Manager.

Does anyone know why did it happen? I didn't run msdtc -resetlog command, because after first failover and then bringing it back to first node, all worked fine

    Thanks

  • Are the clients running Windows 2003 and Java ?

There is some new configuration that needs to be done for MS DTC/Java that occurs after a Windows 2003 SP/Patch is installed on the clients.
