Hi
We have a SQL2005 up and running as standalone box. Now I need to build another box and then cluster them as Active-Passive. We need to minimize the downtime as much as possible.
Could you please advice what is the best way and steps to do this?
Thanks

I'm assuming you know something about clustering. If you don't, then you probably should hire someone (consultant) that does. Asking a general question like that concerns me. If you know something about clustering, I apologize.
You need to be sure that your clustered hardware is on the Windows HCL. You can't just take two boxes and make them a cluster.
Also, what problem are you trying to solve. There are other HA technologies, like mirroring, that might work better.

are you planning to use same SQL Server name?

Thanks for the advices and I am sorry for late reply.
I actually completed this clustering now. I found no way to directly upgrade standalone instance to clustered one. However, I installed a new named instance and migrated existing DB to the new clustered one before shutting down the standalone instance.
If anyone have any better idea, please share.
