I have a Win2k SP3 one node cluster setup running SQL Server 2000 Enterprise SP3. I'm trying to register the instance with Active Directory, to no avail. When I register the sql server, it creates the entries in AD under the local computer name, instead of the sql server network resource name. If I manually create the sql server network resource name in AD, and move the resources to it. Things work fine, until I reboot. Then the SQL Server network name resource fails to initialize, as it believes that name is taken.
What would cause SQL Server to create the AD entries for it's databases under the wrong computer name?

I know you're on a single node and on SP3, but you may want to take a look at this KB article, specifically for the registry keys mentioned.
