access versus mssql

  • I'm hoping someone either has input or links to any kind of comparison of the two databases and when it would be time to move from access to sql in an ecommerce situation.

  • Access is less robust. As far as when to move? When you can afford to or not afford not to.

    If you want point in time recovery, more reliable service, scalability, etc., move to SQL. Comes with costs. Development time, knowledge required, license, etc.

    Access works great in many places. If it gets hit too hard, it could cause issues. However Access is a client software app, SQL is a server app.

    I always use SQL, not worth even building on Access, but that's me.

  • I agree Steve! I work for a web hosting Company and this comes up from time to time. Clients are looking for differences. I should no them but was just looking for some documentation or benchmarking to give em...
