Access ODBC dialog box disappears

  • Hello all, i have an ongoing issue with MS Access 2003 (running on WinXpPro) where each time i try to open an ODBC connection, the "SELECT DATA SOURCE" dialog box does not come up. Based on some research i have re-installed Office, tried swapping the MSJET40.DLL, and even uninstalled Norton Anti-Virus. Can anyone help with the urgent issue please?...

    Thanks in advanced.

  • no one has had this issue before?

  • I once had a machine where the ODBC went wrong after some third party software was installed. I could not run the ODBC window by clicking start-run and typin odbcad32 which previously worked.

I fixed it by downloading and installing the latest version of MDAC from Microsoft, which correctly reinstalled my ODBC files. Just google 'mdac' to find the official download.

Personally I would take a backup before installing this as I like to be cautious!

    hope this helps

    Paul..
