abandon Redgate for Compellent?

  • Interesting idea. Sounds like a reasonable strategy for your business. I'd be concerned about having to recovery with Compellent at another location, but that's separate.

One other question for you: do you run DBCCs on the databases regularly? Just wondering if/how you look for corruption in your scenario

Just a quick follow up question:-

How would it handle a mirrored database which is obviosuly FULL recovery model?

We have a requirement for faster backups / restores but still need our database mirrored for DR.

Mirroring using a SAN? I've never seen that although I see no reason why it could not be implemented.

It would consume a lot of space on a SAN which may be counter-productive.

If I were you, I would contact Compellent's technical support and discuss your specific objectives. They might be able to advise you of a best way to accomplish them.

  • The system admin guys also asks us to look at Bakbone that snap shots , and these solutions do not handle SQL Mirrorring and some replications. Whilst I appreciate that these technologies benefit a number of solutions the tranditional full / txn backup approach is within the DBA sole control and I am concerned that some other dept may roll back my data without me knowing

Sure if you are the DBA and the SAN admin, then his would be easier
