A service control operation failed for the MSSQLSe

    "A service control operation failed for the MSSQLServer service: 87"

    I get this error when installing SS2K on NT4.0. any ideas?

    I checked the sqlstp.log and it looks like scm.exe is passing in an incorrect parameter.

    I looked through the newsgroups, didnt find much. One suggest was to reinstall MDAC, the other to copy the install files to a local folder and install from there. Tried either of those?

    I tried a third way... put the program files and data files in a folder that does not contain spaces... and it worked!
