In the UK this weekend has no extra holiday - but the weather is (unusually!) sunny so it will be barbeque time outside with friends, in general. Looking forward to the following weekend - we have an extra bank holiday due to the Queeen's Diamond jubilee, so a free four day weekend. Yay!
Filmwise want to see The Dictator some time, no hurry but whenever.

Real Steel gets my two thumbs up. My Fiance and son also enjoyed it and she normally avoids Sci-Fi movies like the plague.

Ozzy & Black Label Society plays in Stockholm today so we are a few that will enjoy that and tomorrow some friends plays in Stockholm at Debaser so it's a good weekend in Sweden for me as well!
The singular best sci fi movie I have seen as of late is Troll Hunter. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1740707/
The start of the movie is a little unusual but it gets going nicely and is very surrealistic. A really awesome movie. What really gets me laughing is that the slightly grumpy troll hunter complains about having no extra pay for having to work night shifts! The special effects I'd say are also well done.

We usually see a movie on Memorial weekend as well. I haven't seen many movies lately, but did go see the Avengers. I'm looking forward to Prometheus next month.
I would like to see MIB3 this weekend, but will be watching USA vs Scotland from the front row (the whole family loves futbol).

A couple of weeks back, I went to see "Mirror, Mirror" with my wife and kids. I went into it with only luke warm expectations, but it actually turned out to be a pretty good movie.

I find that SciFi Movies are very pale shadows of quality SciFi novels. Add the additional costs and hassles of going to an actual movie, we have other plans for our time and money. For sure entertainment value, at least half a day will be spent playing Skyrim on the big telly. Also a morning will be spent with shotguns at the range.

On Memorial Day weekend I prefer to watch the old throwback war movies on cable that feature actors that are no longer with us. A personal favorite is the movie Midway starring Henry Fonda and a number of other famous actors and was filmed on the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Lexington in my hometown of Pensacola. Another favorite is the movie Mr. Rogers with Henry Fonda, Jack Lemmon and Jimmy Cagney. While watching the movies, I often reflect on memories of my Grand Fathers who were both veterans of world wars and have long since passed away.

My wife wanted to see Planet of the Apes (more of her type film than mine), but it was fun and the effects were good.
One of my favorite old films is City of Lost Children, a Jules Verne flavored retro sci-fi adventure. Fabulous steampunk style tech. Suitable for kids as well.

It's rare that I'll see a truly great science fiction film. What I'm talking about is a film that's a great adaptation of a great sci-fi novel. Most of the sci-fi movies are pseudo-science fiction, really more fantasy than science, or it's some mass market shoot'em up or super hero film with some sci-fi aspects to it. For example, most of the stuff they put on the cable channel Sci-Fi (SyFy) is not worth my time to watch.
I'm still waiting to see what they'll do with "Rendezvous with Rama". That has the potential to be a great series of films or perhaps a mini-series that spans all four novels. However, the production has been in limbo for years.
