890219 - Cluster IP Address gets a barrier

  • oh ok! 🙂

in the step "Cluster Network Configuration" u entered ip address 10.10.10.30. should i specify the same address or an address in the same subnet? or it's just a sample ip address and it's free to choose everything?

for me, in the network with three virtual servers, the ip address of the domain controller is 192.168.14.86. the first node ip address is ...87, and the seconds one is ...88. the ip address of the cluster is ...89.

in such a condition what must i choose in this step as the ip address?

    thx

  • in the "Cluster Security Policy" step i choose TEST\Administrators. there's no group named SQLClustInst in the domain controller. do i have to add this group or it's ok to choose TEST\Administrators. by the way, i chose TEST as the name for the domain.

in the next page, "Server Configuration", what does the sqlserv account must satisfy? is it enough to be a domain admin? i created this user in the domain controller machine and configured it to be a member of domain users, domain admins and local admins of the machine. but i couldn't succeed to the next step. the errors are as follows:

    - The service account you specify for the SQL Server Agent service must be a member of the SQL Server Agent domain group.

    - The service account is not in the domain group. Ensure that the service account is a member of the domain group for the SQL Server.

i looked for the group "SQL Server Agent" in the domain controller machine and didn't found it. do i have to create a group with this name manually?

what does it mean "The service account is not in the domain group"? does it mean no group with the name of sqlserv exists in the domain?!

    waiting for ur clarification

    thx

  • Dude Hamidi

The document is designed to help someone set up a test system from scratch. Your system is already configured so use your own ip addresses, etc.

in the "Cluster Security Policy" step i choose TEST\Administrators. there's no group named SQLClustInst in the domain controller. do i have to add this group or it's ok to choose TEST\Administrators. by the way, i chose TEST as the name for the domain.

This extract from the document at the point where you provide details of the group answers the above.

Click 'Next' and provide the details of the previously created domain security groups. The service account the SQL Server Services run under, must be a member of these domain groups.

in the next page, "Server Configuration", what does the sqlserv account must satisfy? is it enough to be a domain admin?

Do not apply any permissions to the account, this is done for you and it should NOT be a domain admin. If you're going to set it as domain admin you might as well leave the sql service run as local system.

Please read the document carefully before carrying out the steps within

  • i see

i created a group in the domain controller machine, named SQLClustInst.

i created a user in the domain controller machine, named sqlserv and defined it as the member the SQLClustInst.

    it worked 🙂

    i'll post my future problems...

    thx

  • Bingo, you got it. 😉

    Well done!

  • wow! two nodes were successfully installed at last! 🙂

i'm really happy about it and grateful for ur helps.

    how my new questions, plz:

    1. what's the best test method to check the HA of the created cluster?

    2. what are the keys for increasing performance of the cluster?

then, i realized that the standalone SQL Server 2005 of my own PC is also not working as it has to. eg. some Event Log errors are reported, SQLEXPRESS service cannot be started, etc.

so i decided to try SQL Server 2008 stand-alone installation. when installing, it reported that i've to uninstall SQL Server 2005 Express Tools. in Add/Remove Programs, i couldn't find such a thing. so i decided to uninstall SQL Server 2005 completely from the system.

    3. what will happen to data files and is this the correct choice?

    4. during installation, SQL Server needs the program files folder not to be compressed. why?! isn't it supported by the OS transparently?! does SQL Server access the hard disk directly and if so, may it alter the hard disk content?!

    regards
