70-462 Training Kit : Cannot connect from SQL-A to SQL-Core
Currently, I have set up lab environment on my lap top (like example in 70-462 Training Kit)
After exercise 1, which is to test connectivity between machine in domain, I cannot connect from SQL-A to SQL-Core
It show error
Message :
Cannot connect to SQL-CORE
A network related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configure to allow remote connections (provider: Named pipes Provider. Error 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server (.net SQLClient Data provider)
Error Number: 53
Severity:20
State: 0
In the set up phase, I can success fully join SQL-A,SQL-B,SQL-C,SQL-D and SQL-Core to DC.
Anyone has experience in this, please help.

What helped when I was doing the exercise was turning off the firewall.

The issue is resolve.
I re-create SQL-Core VM from scratch and re-install the SQL Server and it work.:-D

Hi Koen, I did the same thing turned off the firewall(s), but isn't the purpose of the inbound rule created in chapter 1 supposed to make that unnecessary??

!! 🙂 do you think that was detrimental to your learning administration i.e. GPO etc.? I ask as I'm almost where you were when you started this a year + ago and am just trying to follow the book, which has surprisingly little errata. Is it better to just blow off that part (inbound rules) open the firewalls and keep moving or will it come back and bite me in later chapters? When something doesn't work I always assume user error (me) and can spend days researching and tweaking it.

It didn't have any impact at all, if I recall correctly.

Turning off all firewalls will allow you to move through the exercises more quickly because you won't have to deal with firewall issues. I believe for the most part windows firewall is outside the scope of the MSSQL certification exams. However, I suggest you do know the default ports used by SQL services (1433, etc.).
However working through these firewall issues will be beneficial should you find yourself in the job where you need to get servers talking to each other while leaving firewalls up.
