Hi,
Id like to take this exam and looking for some good prep.. My T-SQL skills are basic at present (main reason for taking the exam). Since the exam prep books arent out for another few months, Could anyone suggest some study materials?
I prefer learning by doing, so any training with examples and things you can try yourself would be great.
Any learning techniques that poeple have for learning coding would be great to (I normal draw out any concepts im trying to learn, doesnt really work with writing TSQL)
Thanks

My advise would be to lookup the skills measured, from the MS Learning website for the exam and then devel into them by going searches in a search engine of your choice.

Hi
thank you for the reply!
Keeps it simple! I had already writed out the objectives and starting to go though them pretty much as you had suggested (keeping links to BOL for each command)
Id still like a book or videos to watch as well if anyone has any suggestions.

You will be lucky to get anything specific for the exam as they have only just been officially released.
Just do a search for T-SQL 101, should bring up the basics of T-SQL then can go deeper from there.

Think ill make a few dummy projects to design databases to work from.
Thank you

cbtnuggets.com just has a video series out on 461 which could be a good starting point to get an overview. I am preparing for the exam myself and will sure have a look at these too.

Honestly, in my opinion, use the tools to study for the T-SQL tests for 2008 for now. I have very little 2012 experience and passed the beta for this exam almost completely on my knowledge of 2008. There's not a lot of new T-SQL for 2012 (not compared to the administration changes), and you could at least get started knowing that for the most part what works in 2008 is going to work in 2012.

There are several books authored by Itzik Ben-Gan that are exceptionally good:
SQL Server 2008 T-SQL Fundamentals
Inside SQL Server 2008 T-SQL Querying
One of his SQL Server 2012 books is available now:
SQL Server 2012 High-Performance T-SQL using window functions
learndevnow.com has SQL Server courses available; only one is regarding 2012 but the ones about SQL Server 2008 would be helpful. The cost is $99 for the year.
I suspect you would be able to match most or all of the exam objectives to the books above.

I am starting to look into getting the MCSA: SQL Server 2012, but only have classroom experience, and not much of it. I want to be a DBA, and feel I am a natural at it; I absolutely love it.
Does anyone else recommend learndevnow.com? I will probably be getting the book and training kit that the MS site recommends for the course - Book: T-SQL Fundamentals for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and SQL Azure,
MCTS Self Paced Training Kit 70-461. What do you all think of that?
I have had a very difficult time figuring out what I need to take and where I need to go to get my education. I don't have a lot of money (cause I'm looking for work!), but I would like quality courses and understand I will have to pay; just don't want to waste my money. I am self taught and prefer virtual to onsite classroom.
Any suggestions would be so appreciated! Also, I am new here and figuring out where to post my questions, so please let me know if there are other forums or threads that may be helpful to me. Thanks so much everyone. 🙂

I just preordered the two resources recommended for the MS Exam 70-461 -
? Book: T-SQL Fundamentals for Microsoft SQL Server 2012 and SQL Azure
? MCTS Self Paced Training Kit 70-461
Kinda irritating that the training kit isn't anticipated to be out until October though. 🙁
I'm so excited about working on this, and I want to start yesterday!
I did check out the CBTNuggets videos on it and they look promising.
Edit: Was going to merge this with the last post, but couldn't figure out how. 😮

Is 461 easier than 433?

Those looking to learn.... I personally prefer books + practice. Conferences/classroms are nice but you generally need to have prior knowledge to get most of them. SQL Bits videos are good.
Below are some links from our website that might help you to prepare for certifications:
Exam Guide to 98-364 Database Fundamentals - This is still in progress
Exam Guide 70-461 Querying with SQL Server 2012
and SQL Tutorial for beginners
We hope to add new articles based on certification requirements (we are starting with 98-364 and 70-461)
Regards

these linked content look good, but it hasn't finshed editing.
I think, T-SQL library in MSDN would be better idear.
