Windows Server 2003 R2
Standard x64 Edition
Service Pack 2
SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (64-bit)
Service Pack 2 (9.00.3042.00)
Dedicated SQL Server
Total Server Memory: 7.56 GB (My Computer - Properties - I don't know why it is not 8 GB)
SQL Min Memory: 128 MB
SQL Max Memory: (default max setting - 2147483647)
I have run sp_configure to verify these settings.
I have read many, many articles, discussions, etc. on this topic and I cannot find my specific situation so I would appreciate any help. I know the "Lock Pages in Memory" is for Enterprise Edition only so that does not apply here.
I have run Perfmon to check the memory utilization and I don't understand why I see the numbers I am seeing. The two numbers that seem strange to me are:
Target Server Memory (KB): 2550000 (Average, with max and min close by)
Total Server Memory (KB): 2435000 (Average, with max and min close by)
I can undersand why the Total Server Memory would be low, if SQL just wasn't consuming more memory than that. What confuses me is the Target Server Memory. I would expect this to be much higher, possibly even up to the total 7.56 GB. This makes me think that the server is not recognizing all of the available memory.
I know I may need to set the Max memory to a defined amount to allow the OS some memory but this is a production box so I couldn't do this until tonight anyway.
Any ideas why I don't see more memory in the Target Server Memory value and how I can get it to use more?
Thanks,
hawg

increase the load on the server. I would set the min and max memory to be the values you want sql server to use
