I have been tasked with comparing third party tools for SQL server Design and Admin. For the purpose of automating migration and verification from "Sandbox" to Dev
I have to find pros and cons of each
Red-Gate -
Idera -
Quest -
So far redgate and idera use a command line tool for this. Have not found Quest.
Any help would be appriciated.

I have used Red-Gate's SQL Data Compare at 2 different companies and think it is great. Mainly because of all of the options that it has to compare and the ability to script of have it automatically do it. Plus, Red-Gate has great customer support and is a reputable company.

I have thoroughly enjoyed using the red-gate tools from the GUI, never from the CLI. But I love them, been using them since like 2002-2003.. My demo of the tools actually saved so much time and effort that they effectively paid for the license.. Easy sell to my management at the time..

RedGate can also use a GUI, not just command line.
I haven't used the other ones. I've used RedGate and ApexSQL (not on your list, but they have tools for database comparison and reconciliation, as well as other DBA tools).
Are you just trying to get something that will compare schemas and generate scripts to reconcile objects from Dev to QA, and then QA to Prod? If so, both Apex and RedGate work beautifully for it. Both have feature lists on their websites.

Hello,
Thanks to all who have responded thus far.

My first comparison was to do just that. But they offer so much more.
I have used Idera and Red-gate and found more use out of the Idera admin tools. But I will look at ApexSQL too. Thanks ...

Yeah, the real product comparison will be to compare the features of each to the needs you have beyond simple schema comparisons.
One advantage to keep in mind with any of them is: What other tools does that vendor offer and what kind of deals do they have?
RedGate's toolbelt includes their compare tools, and a ton of other useful DBA tools. ApexSQL offers a similar set of packages that all price and work together.
Lumigent has a less comprehensive toolset (and less specialized in SQL Server). Same for Idera.
