32 bit SSRS with 64 bit SQL Server and OS

  • Hello,

We have a customer with a 64 bit OS and 64 bit SQL Server. We have a web based application on this server that requires IIS to be running in 32 bit mode. The customer wants to enable SSRS, but installing the 64 bit version would require IIS to run in 64 bit mode which would cause the web bases application to fail.

Is it possible to install the 32 bit version of SSRS (perhaps in a separate named instance), and have reports in that SSRS installation access database tables in the 64 bit default instance?

Thank you for any assistance you could provide.

  • Please review this MSDN link, it should answer all of your questions.

    Elroy: Nope.
George: Then lie to me and say you're kidding.

  • Thanks a lot. I appreciate the reply.

  • I have a similar situation but to install SQL 2008 R2 64 bit with Reporting Services 32 bit. The link is very helpful but is for SQL 2005. Are the tasks the same for SQL 2008 R2?
