Hi
I have just started getting issues with the SQL 2008 R2 upgrade advisor. This tool has previously worked ok for me and a colleague who also has it installed (both windows 7 64 bit PC's). We have used the advisor on 16th Feb 2011 with no issues. We both now get the error below. I have tried multiple reboots and uninstalls with no help. The 2008 upgrade advisor works fine. There is one unanswered post on the Microsoft forums about this issue dated 25th May [/url] .
"Method not found:
'System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable `1<Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.Error>
Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.SqlCodeDom.SqlCodeObject.get_Errors()'
Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.dll in c:\Windows\Assembly is listed version 10.0.0.0 but has file version 10.50.1750.9 the version in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Upgrade Advisor\BPA\bin is version 10.50.1600.1
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Sounds like a bad install file or some dll can't be installed.
Do you have admin rights on the machine?
Did you install with run as administrator?
Did you try redownloading the package (maybe even a different version)?

I have admin rights (local and domain), UAC is turned down to minimum, I have redownloaded the package multiple times. I dont think I can execute the installer as administrator as it is an msi package which does that for me.
This has also happened on a colleagues machine without any (known) changes to the installation.

ehhh...same dead ends. I ended up installing the advisor on one of my 2003 servers instead of trying to run it from my desktop and the reports are happier.

Thank you for this post you have saved me alot of time. I have server A 2005 SP2 32BIT with 2 instances, I have upgraded instance 1 successfully. When I ran the advisor against instance2 and encountered all the errors mentioned in the orginal post above.
I then installed the UA on my PC and ran it against instance2 and the errors did not show !

I've been using the Upgrade Advisor for 2008 for a while now and never had any problems. Today I installed the Upgrade Advisor for 2008 R2 and keep on getting these type of messages:
Database Server,"PreUpgrade","Methode niet gevonden: System.Collections.Generic.IEnumerable`1<Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.Parser.Error> Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SqlParser.SqlCodeDom.SqlCodeObject.get_Errors().","DROPSYSOBJ",
I did the install on my local workstation and later on a server. I have admin rights on both. I ran the advisor against a SQL2000 and SQL2005 server, but get similar messages on both.
Any new ideas on why this happens?

Some update that was installed earlier caused this.

Maybe the sql service is not started
Right Click on My Comuter, then click on Manage then Services and Applications and then Services
You should see a "Sql Server" in the list which its status is "Started"
Hope this helps you

SQL Server 2008 R2 Upgrade Advisor (10.50.1600.1) seems to be working fine on Windows Server 2008 R2 OS.
