Is there no Developer Edition for SQL 2008 R2?

There is.

I don't know, try the long list of links to sellers that was in my previous response.

The very first one: CDW says 5-7 days for the dev edition of R2.

I ordered a copy yesterday from NewEgg. I should have it in a day or two.

By some strange coincidence as I was reaing this forum, my door bell rang and there was the FedX truck with a package from CDW with my order which was placed in the afternoon of Aug 27th .. using the web page to order.
Delivery was in 5 calendar days 2 of which were a Saturday and a Sunday.... and you can ask for FedX air .. which I did not request.
As an aside ... the shipment email notification from CDW included a FedX tracking number in a link to the FedX site so you can track your packages deliver.

FYI, for those who have not tried to find out more about the SQL 2008 R2 Developer Edition, let me clear something up.
You may be asking why this thread? Why not look up the product on the MS website?
The only information I could find out about the product from the MS website is that it exists. There was no information about the possibility of upgrading the 2008 version, or how to get this version. For some reason, searches were not bringing up the sites that were selling it.

Rats, I was hoping you'd found information about upgrading.

I even called MS but I got fed up with people who could not answer my questions and kept passing me on to other departments. Whatever happened to customer support by people who know the product? (Oops, that's another show.)
What's $50 for the full version? I figured this way I woud not have to deal with potential upgrade issues.

That's dissapointing. Lets hope they get their acts together. I'll be interested in hearing how the install of R2 goes, if there's a built-in "upgrade" in the install. Sadly, you'd still have to pay the $50 to get it.

I'm not planning on doing a DB upgrade at this time. When I'm done, my computer will have 3 instances of SQL; SQL2005, SQL2008, and SQL2008R2. I guess at some point I should try doing an upgrade from 2005 -> 2008, and 2008 -> 2008R2, 2005 -> 2008R2, just to see of it goes.
